Qualification Details

  • To qualify for the position, applicants must hold a PhD/doctoral degree within the field of psychology or equivalent areas, at the time of application.
  • Applicants must be able to document research experience in the application of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in cognitive neuroscience studies
  • Research experience in the application of various neuroimaging acquisition and analysis methods is an advantage
  • Participation in international networks and a record of high-level international publications will weigh positively
  • The Department is seeking an enthusiastic researcher who wishes to build a career in cognitive neuroscience and who is interested in ground-breaking scientific methods
  • Experience of leading and coordination of research projects, establishment of research networks, as well as acquisition of research funding will weigh positively
  • The applicant must show the ability for scientific dissemination and be prepared to facilitate student active teaching in the laboratory. Experience with digital teaching would be an advantage
  • The applicant’s research potential, motivation and personal qualities will be emphasised
  • Experience with teaching and course administration in the university sector would be an advantage
  • Basic teaching training and experience with the supervision of students at university level is a requirement for the position as associate professor, please read "Rules for assessing educational competence at UiB". Applicants who are unable to document adequate educational competence upon appointment, will be ordered to meet the requirements within two years of assuming office.
  • The applicant must be able to work independently and in a structured manner, and have good communication and collaborative skills
  • It is desired that the successful candidate can teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language and must be able to do so within two years after his/her appointment.

In the event that none of the applicants are qualified for a permanent position, a temporary appointment can be made for a period of up to two years where it is considered likely that the qualifications necessary for an associate professorship can be achieved within that time (see Act relating to universities and university colleges, section 6-5 (1). At the end of a temporary appointment period, a new evaluation will be made regarding permanent employment.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The Department is seeking applicants to teach cognitive neuroscience in a broad sense, with a particular focus on functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and its application in cognitive and/or clinical neuroscience. The successful applicant must engage in neuroimaging research within cognitive neuroscience, applied neuroscience, and/or clinical neuroscience.

Work tasks will include, amongst others:

  • Teaching of different perspectives in cognitive neuroscience, primarily within the professional psychology training programme, master’s programme in Behavioural Neuroscience and Logopaedics, and the PhD graduate school IGSIN, including teaching and demonstration of human neuroimaging methods
  • Administrative responsibility for courses in cognitive neuroscience
  • Collaborate on ensuring quality of and evaluation of study programmes associated with cognitive neuroscience
  • Grading of exams within the Department’s teaching portfolio
  • It is expected that the successful applicant has teaching, exam work and supervision, in topics related to biological psychology, depending on the Departments needs.
  • The successful applicant is expected to contribute to front line research in all aspects of human functional neuroimaging and its application in cognitive and/or clinical neuroscience by active participation in one of the Department’s Research Groups.
  • Initiate and participate in collaborative research projects, funding applications and publications
  • Supervise and train bachelor and master students, PhD students and students in the professional psychology training course.
  • Participate in administrative duties, meetings and committee work as expected of academic staff at the Department, including leadership and coordination of working groups.

  • Salary at pay grade 68 - 74 (code 1011/ Pay range 24, minimum alternative 8) in the state salary scale. This currently amounts to an annual salary of NOK  626 100 - 702 100 before taxes.
