Qualification Details

We are looking for a new colleague who can bring expertise to our Earth and Environment track. A background in the fields of Energy and/or Sustainability is preferred, as well as experience in interdisciplinary applications.

You are a lecturer who:

  • Has a PhD in a field relevant for the position.
  • Has experience in teaching at university level, preferably with a University Teaching Qualification (BKO or equivalent).
  • Is fluent in English, both written and spoken (C1 level).
  • Is experienced with advising, mentoring, or coaching students.
  • Is allowed to work in the Netherlands.

Responsibilities/Job Description

You will be part of the Sciences department at AUC, which offers courses in Information Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Earth and Environment, Biological and Biomedical Sciences, and Health. You will be involved in teaching in our Earth and Environment track and related fields, depending on your expertise. You will also act as an academic advisor (tutor) in our tutoring programme.

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Teach courses like System EarthTheme EnergyClimate and Sustainability and/or other courses in the Earth and Environment track. Depending on your background you will also teach in related tracks in the Sciences, and/or in courses in the Academic Core (e.g. Academic Writing Skills).
  • Be involved in course planning, evaluation, and alignment within the curriculum.
  • Advise your tutees on curriculum planning, study progress, exploration of personal and academic interests, academic and career possibilities after AUC, and matters concerning AUC policies.
  • Guide your tutees through their integration into the AUC community and pay special attention to ensuring that their study plans meet the degree requirements and match their future ambitions. You may also help coordinate support and resources for struggling students. You will have the necessary interpersonal skills to provide effective guidance with sensitivity and empathy.

About the Employer:

We offer a temporary employment contract for 30.4-38 hours per week for a period of 18 months. The preferred starting date is as soon as possible. A permanent contract follows if we positively assess your performance.

The gross monthly salary, based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience, ranges between €3,821 to €5,230 (scale 11). This does not include 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% year-end allowance. The UFO profile docent 3 is applicable. A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable. The UvA offers good provisions regarding pension, health care, training facilities, mobility and paid parental leave.
