Qualification Details

You meet some of the following requirements and bring the attitude to learn the rest:

  • Experience with administration of Linux OS (Red Hat derivatives).
  • Experience with administration of large-scale data storage based upon ZFS.
  • Experience with operation of SLURM as batch workload scheduler.
  • Knowledge of backup principles and processes.
  • Have experience with shell scripting and be able to understand/modify Perl, Python, and Bash scripts.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Anisble.
  • Experience with FreeIPA.
  • CI/CD pipelines and tools (I.e., Gitlab CI/CD).
  • Database administration.
  • Good understanding of network services: DNS, SSH, NFS, HTTPS and others.

There is no requirement for familiarity with a particular research area.We seek a responsible person who understand that the work of many others’ depends on the stable operation of our cluster. The applicant should be able to work in dynamic international environment. We need a person who can work independently, can identify and solve problems and continuously develop our system.Since we are international group, proficient English is important. Danish is desirable but not a requirement for the position. We primarily have local users, but due to our research collaborations, we also have users in other places in Denmark and other countries.

Responsibilities/Job Description

We work with statistics and bioinformatics to breed healthier and more productive farm animals and plants. As a crucial part of our research activities, we continuously conduct demanding computations operating with a big data. We are a large group of highly trained researchers from many countries and across the globe.Our current HPC system contains among other things serves with about 500 cores, ca. 100 Tb of data and fast network, which we intend to upgrade.

  • Administer the Linux servers and network infrastructure.
  • Perform and automate day-to-day operations involving the usage of the cluster.
  • Oversee the setup and monitoring of our servers, backups, and network connections.
  • Implement patches and required changes across all relevant systems.
  • Continuously work on improvements to the runtime environment, and work with colleagues in implementing changes.
  • Participate in capacity planning, hardware procurement, and performance analysis.
  • Document the expected usage of various aspects of GHPC, and support its users in making the best use of it.

Center for Quantitative Genetics and GenomicsThe institute like center, QGG, is a major center for research and education in quantitative genetics and quantitative genomics (www.qgg.au.dk/en) at Aarhus University. We perform basic and applied research within livestock and plant breeding as well as human applications within precision medicine. The research within QGG is characterised by a very close synergy between method development, basic analysis and application of the developed methods on practical problems across species in collaboration with industry partners. QGG is an international research Center with about 70 employees and visiting researchers from over 15 nations. QGG works in teams and strive for an excellent working environment.
