Qualification Details

  • have a doctorate degree in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics or related fields that the employer considers equivalent and experience in performing population genomic analyzes. As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most.
  • have excellent knowledge of English in both spoken and written form, as English is the working language of the research group.
  • must have a good ability to conduct independent research, take initiative, ask pertinent scientific questions, collaborate and communicate with other people.


Creativity, motivation and drive are important personal characteristics. The applicant should have a genuine interest in working with issues related to population genomics and genomics and quantitative genetics (GWAS). Documented expertise in bioinformatics and experimental design related to the handling of large genomic datasets is aa merit. "Reproducible research" and "FAIR data" are central concepts within the project.

Responsibilities/Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated person for a project in population and comparative genomics on Norway spruce and Scots pine. The project is run as a collaboration between SLU in Umeå and Uppsala and Science for Life Laboratory in Uppsala. The project currently has access to whole-genome resequencing data from about 1000 individuals of Norway spruce and 300 individuals of Scots pine. The work tasks mainly consist of data analysis and will be carried out in collaboration with other research groups within the project.

About the Department

The department has about 90 employees and is active within research areas focused on plant development, diversity and defense (www.slu.se/en/departments/plant-biology-forest-genetics). The Department belongs to the Uppsala BioCenter (www.bioc.slu.se), an excellent scientific environment combining competence in plant biology, forest mycology and pathology, microbiology, food science, chemistry and biotechnology. It also offers state-of-the-art infrastructure, including modern plant growth facilities as well as equipment for bioimaging and molecular biology. The department is also a member of the Linnean Centre for Plant Biology in Uppsala (www.lcpu.se), a platform for interactions between plant scientists at SLU and Uppsala University.
