Qualification Details

The general qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the Appointments Procedure for Teachers at the University of Gothenburg. Applicants should have pedagogical skills, hold a PhD or have equivalent scientific proficiency or some other skill in the field which is relevant to the subject area and work assignment within the position.

This position requires a PhD or equivalent scientific competence or advanced professional skills within the field of building conservation, heritage management and planning and development of the built environment.

The ability to teach and publish in Swedish is a requirement. International applicants who do not speak Swedish at the time of application are expected to be able to teach in Swedish within two years. If necessary, the employer will assist with Swedish competence development.

Assessment

Assessment of applications will be based on scientific skills and pedagogical merits, which will be given equal weight. Professional experience and collaboration between the University and the surrounding society, both within Sweden and internationally, will be considered in the assessment. Particular emphasis will be placed on the combined competence of research/development work, education and cultural conservation practice with a focus on construction crafts and sustainable construction.

When assessing professional skills special emphasis will be placed on advanced practical experience and documented skills in building craft and sustainable construction. You should have professional experience from working with building maintenance projects with high conservation requirements and have a documented good ability to organize your work and collaborate with colleagues. Assessment of pedagogical skills includes planning, implementation, evaluation, supervision and summative assessment.

Other Merits

Documented ability to collaborate with other subject areas and with organizations outside the university is an advantage.

Experience of international work, and in leading research and development projects is an advantage.

Proficiency in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.

Higher education pedagogical education is a qualification and applicants who do not have higher education pedagogical education are expected to undergo such within one year of starting employment.

We will make an overall assessment of competence and skills in order to employ the applicant who is judged to have the best conditions to complete and develop the work tasks and contribute to a positive development of the department.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The employment consists of education, research and interaction with society and the professional field.

Educational tasks include planning, development and implementation of teaching at bachelor and master level in the field of building crafts and sustainable building construction, with special focus on the program Conservation, Building Crafts. Examples of courses you are expected to be responsible for and teach are The Building as a system, Design and Terminology of Buildings, Built Environments, Theory and History of Conservation, Scientific Theory and Method for Graduation Thesis in Conservation, Documentation and Visualisation. The position may involve teaching in other programs and courses within the department.

The position also includes administrative tasks associated with a position as a senior lecturer, for example planning, pedagogical work, course administration, assessment and supervision of degree projects. The position requires active participation in collegial work in subject, course and program development.

The tasks within the Craft Laboratory can consist of research and development in building craft and sustainable building construction as well as supervision of development projects within the conservation field, development of pedagogical models and teaching material for the programs within the department or aimed at the professional heritage sector. Participation in and development of national and international collaboration projects within the Craft Laboratory is also expected of the position.

The position requires active participation in the development of an academic environment, in planned meetings and activities within the department.
