Responsibilities/Job Description

The appointed engineer will:

  • Be responsible for the operation, maintenance and development of the laboratories and technical equipment at BMF including risk waste handling.
  • Be responsible for maintaining stock cell cultures and lab routines including preparation of chemicals and media, and sterilization of equipment.
  • Responsible for cell storage and liquid nitrogen tanks, and gas supply.
  • Be responsible for training of master students and new employees in laboratory work and HSE routines.
  • Participate in procurement and implementation of technical equipment.
  • Interact and collaborate with the instrument workshop (I-lab) and electronics workshop (E-lab).

Based on the needs of the Department, other duties may be assigned.

About the Position

The main activities are focused around: 1) Cell laboratories including a flow cytometer, hypoxia stations with advanced biosensors, and a confocal microscope. 2) The electron spin resonance (EPR)-laboratory with 3 spectrometers (BRUKER) and home build sample holders (cavities) permitting X (9.5 GHz)- and Q (35 GHz)-bånd EPR, ENDOR (Electron Nuclear Double Resonance) and EIE  (Endor Induced EPR) detections in the temperature interval 4 K - ca 400 K. In addition, the section operates two X-ray facilities and a beamline setup for proton irradiation of cells at Oslo Cyclotron Laboratory.
