Qualification Details

The successful applicant has a degree in science or medicine and has a PhD or equivalent post-graduate research qualification. Additionally, the applicant must have skills in both administrative educational aspects and in thrombosis research related to haemostatic biomarkers and obesity. The preferred candidate has demonstrated skills and scientific achievements within this area, is able to motivate and supervise, has proven research management skills, good collaboration abilities, and visions of how to further strengthen the Thrombosis Research Unit. Danish is not required initially, but must be mastered at proficiency level C1, at the Common European Framework of References for Languages within the first 2 years of employment.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The professor will be responsible for developing research on the thromboinflammatory component in health and diseases with particular emphasis on obesity. The research area could include - yet is not limited to - the role of haemostatic protein modifications and genetic variations, and how these protein variants are affected by pharmacologic and environmental interventions. The position will combine laboratory work at the Thrombosis Research Unit with clinical studies at other departments at the Hospital of South West Jutland.The professor will be responsible for establishing a close scientific collaboration with the newly initiated South Danish Obesity Initiative at the Hospital of South West Jutland. The professor will be responsible for the development of new strategies for collaboration with other key stakeholders in this research area. The position will include research management at The Thrombosis Research Unit.

Additionally, the professor will be expected to teach and mentor postdocs, PhD students, and undergraduate students, as well as to maintain and develop national and international contacts and secure funding. Participation in assessment work is part of the position.Moreover, profiling this research area in the public eye will be an important task. The new professor must participate in academic groups presently working on the new master’s programme in Medicine at the Hospital of South West Jutland. From the year 2022, the professor will be expected to participate in the teaching, instruction, and module coordination on the Master in Medicine in Esbjerg

About the Project/Department

The unit’s research is primarily about understanding the underlying mechanisms which affect the development of thrombosis and thrombosis-related illnesses. A better understanding will contribute to the development of better prevention, diagnostics, monitoring, prognostics, and treatment of patients.

The research builds on a close collaboration with other departments and specialties at the hospital for instance gastroenterology, cardiology, endocrinology and gynecology and obstetrics.  Additionally, the unit collaborates with national as well as international researchers.

The content of the clinical/ administrative part of the job will vary depending on the applicant’s professional background, experience, and qualifications. Both clinical and research duties must have a strong and inherent connection and must be discussed and established with the hospital management. Depending on clinical qualifications and experience the clinical/ administrative duties may include diagnosing thrombosis patients and carrying out related analyses.

The Department of Regional Health Research supports research in relation to the person as a whole, the good life and the more common diseases, makes out a platform for scientists and educators and builds a bridge between the University of Southern Denmark, the Region of Southern Denmarkthe Region of  Zealand, the hospitals in the two regions and the patient. The department focuses on the continuity of patient care across sectors, hospitals and specialist fields.
