  • a Master’s degree or PhD in computer science or a related field
  • strong programming skills
  • solid knowledge of Linked Data and semantic technologies
  • fluency in English

  • practical experience in FAIR data, or with approaches or data from the Social Sciences or Humanities is an asset

Responsibilities/Job Description

Researchers increasingly rely on data that are FAIR: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. Social scientists often use data that were not created for research purposes. They work for example with administrative or commercial data, media content, historical and archival data, biometric data, and geospatial data. These types of data are typically less FAIR. Many of such data providers are eager to increase their FAIRness, but they lack the knowledge, skills and incentives to do so.As a scientific engineer, you are a part of the project “Building a FAIR Expertise Hub for the social sciences”, awarded by the national Platform Digital Infrastructure SSH (PDI-SSH). This FAIR Expertise Hub will support communities of data providers in improving their FAIRness. Your role is to support the social science communities in the technical aspects of making their research data and metadata FAIRer. You provide them with existing tools and develop new methods for FAIR practice. Our project is involved in the ODISSEI infrastructure initiative ( You work closely together with a data steward at Erasmus University Rotterdam in setting up the Hub.

Your duties

  • you set up existing FAIR and Linked Data tools for the researchers to use, and adapt and extend them where necessary
  • you document and define best practices and produce tutorial material
  • you are involved in devising novel methods and tools for FAIR practice in the social sciences and beyond
  • you co-organize FAIR implementation workshops together with GO-FAIR
