Qualification Details
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
Previous experience in immunology is a requirement and the expertise in murine models of diseases and in bioinformatics desirable.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Type of scholarship
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
Responsibilities/Job Description
Our group is dedicated to study the regulation of immune responses that control the infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We investigate the role of major molecular controllers of T cell and macrophage functions in the outcome of M. tuberculosis infection and vaccination. Our rationale is that this knowledge is required for designing therapeutic and prophylactic tools against these infections.
Duties
You will aim to understand and harness the infection with Mycobaterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of Tuberculosis, by characterizing cellular immune mechanisms of protection against infection. You will study the causative role of different immune cell populations, cytokine, cytokine receptors, chemokines or innate immune receptors or intracellular signalling molecules in mouse strains were these molecules are targeted. You should also address the immunopathogenesis of disease ex vivo using cellular and molecular biology methods. In vivo observations in mousodels of infection will be complemented by in vitro experiments using primary cell cultures were the mechanisms involved could be studied in depth. You will collaborate with team also dedicated to the study of immune responses in Tuberculosis, led by Prof Martin Rottenberg.
