Qualification Details

Applicants must hold a PhD degree and qualifications equivalent to a completed employment period as assistant professor.

The applicant is expected to possess initiative and good cooperative skills, be visible and actively contribute to organizing the daily activities in OrgESS and the connected teaching programs. Both professional and social competences will be prioritized in the efforts to create an inspiring daily working environment. The applicant should cover several of the following academic orientations:

  • Sustainability – social, economic, environmental
  • Social change in the context and confrontations within the welfare society
  • Intersections between subjectivity, society, and intervention/innovation
  • Potentials, foundations, effects and disadvantages of social intervention, social innovation, and social entrepreneurship
  • Critical, societally engaged, participant involved research with qualitative and creative research methods

Within two years of employment, the applicant is expected to be able to teach in Danish. Experiences with problem-oriented project supervision and teaching at university level is an advantage.

 

AssessmentIn the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to

  • relevance of research expertise for the research groups focus areas,
  • scientific production and research potential at an international level,
  • the ability to create, promote and utilize research results,
  • experience in teaching and education development and management,
  • the ability to create an engaged and interactive learning environment that motivate and inspire students to develop all aspects of their profiles,
  • the ability to attract external funding and manage research projects in collaboration with external partners such as public authorities, private companies, NGO’s etc.
  • networks, experience from research environments and collaborative abilities

Responsibilities/Job Description

The associate professor’s work will primarily include research (including publication/academic dissemination work) and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations). In addition to research and research-based teaching, the position also requires share of knowledge with the rest of society – including participation in public debates. Furthermore, the associate professor is expected to develop skills as research manager. Applicants are referred to the university’s Faculty expectations for specifications on the required level of qualifications within research, teaching, networking, fundraising, impact and outreach etc.

 

The ideal candidate for this position is expected to:

  • Perform research and publish in leading international, peer-reviewed journals, possibly supplemented with research monographs with high ranking academic publishers
  • Secure research funding and engage in research partnerships
  • Contribute to the development of the research profile of the Department and in OrgESS
  • Increase the international recognition of the research conducted
  • Develop and nurture research networks nationally and internationally, including industry, civil and public sector partners
  • Take responsibility to strengthen the Departments profile around social change, social intervention and entrepreneurship
  • Play a key role in developing the cross disciplinary educational programmes of the Department
  • Teach/supervise/assess PhDs, take part in the doctoral school’s teaching programme, and attract new PhD students
  • Act as a mentor for junior researchers with guidance and supervision
  • Contribute to the administrative responsibilities of the Department including academic assessments.
  • Actively contribute to the research environment by a visible and physical presence at the Department

The applicant must participate actively in the activities organized by the research group and contribute to the development of problem-oriented and transdisciplinary research projects with colleagues as well as external partners.

The applicant must contribute to the ongoing development of the problem-oriented learning model and be part in strengthening the interdisciplinary, exemplary and collaboratory approach, characteristic of the teaching environment at Roskilde University.

About the Department

Department of People and Technology is the largest department at RUC, and covers a range of subject areas, broadly focused on human – society – technology interactions and covering e.g. sustainable transition, social interventions & entrepreneurship, urban planning, digital transformation, data science, work and health studies etc. The position is linked to the research group OrgESS – Organization, Ethics & Social Sustainability addressing the development of social sustainability as part of the societal, ecological and/or economical changes in public and private sector, and in social movements, NGOs and/or welfare institutions.

We are looking for an applicant with a strong research profile related to the interdisciplinary field of social change and social interventions. We expect an applicant who can contribute to our research, collaboration and work environment in OrgESS. Our research is focused in the cross-disciplinary field of social sustainability, with a particular focus on how and why social interventions and innovation facilitate social changes with a strong commitment to promote social equality. To be part of this research, applicants should have a focus on subjective experiences of and engagements in social changes. We invite applicants who has documented experience with collaborative research involving welfare institutions, social movements, NGOs or private organizations. Applicants must have experience in attracting and managing external funding. We encourage candidates from transdisciplinary research environments possessing the ability to collaborate with researchers from multiple fields of research to apply for this position.

The applicant is expected to teach at 2-3 of the study programs where OrgESS provides teaching:

  • Social Entrepreneurship & Management (MA)
  • Social Intervention (MA)
  • Master i Socialt Entreprenørskab MA)
  • Arbejdsliv (MA)
  • Socialpsykologi & Læring (MA)
  • Samfundsvidenskabelig Bachelor (BA)
  • Humanistisk Bachelor (BA)

Teaching tasks consist partly of project supervision and partly of course teaching, as well as meetings and planning of teaching activities in collaboration with colleagues from OrgESS and from IMT and RUC staff. RUC employment policy requires that the successful applicant can teach in Danish within 2 years of employment – preferably sooner.
