Qualification Details

The candidate must have a PhD in physics and a demonstrated track record of setting up and successfully operating tr-ARPES or other experimental endstations at femtosecond laser or x-ray free electron laser sources.

Additional qualifications

Experience with ultrahigh vacuum systems and cryogenic infrastructure is considered an advantage.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible of setting up and operating an experiment for performing tr-ARPES studies on solid state samples such as high-Tc superconductors, quantum materials, 2D and magnetic materials. She/he will integrate an existing ARTOF spectrometer into the setup and join in to the ongoing commissioning of a new femtosecond laser system as the photoemission light source. The candidate will perform experiments in collaboration with Uppsala University research groups. The work duties can also include teaching and other departmental duties (no more than 20%).

About the Department/Section/Group

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is strengthening its research focus on ultrafast x-ray science with large-scale x-ray free electron laser (XFEL) facilities such as the European XFEL and laboratory-based femtosecond laser sources. Within this effort FREIA is building a new femtosecond laser laboratory for performing cutting-edge experiments in the field of material science. Techniques such as time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (tr-ARPES) will be used to get new insight into properties of non-equilibrium systems and deeper understanding transient physical phenomena including light-induced superconductivity, ultrafast charge transfer and low-dimensional material characterization. We are currently implementing experiments using the mid-infra-red (MIR) to extreme ultraviolet (XUV) region of the electromagnetic spectrum, complementary to that accessible at XFEL facilities.
