Qualification Details

To be eligible for employment for this position, applicants must have doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant subject area, e.g. cell and molecular biology, experimental biology in medicine / biomedicine or equivalent area. The potential candidate is expected to have good scientific skills in this field of research, specifically in the transport of RNA and proteins via extracellular vesicles (EVs / exosomes). Good communication skills, in speaking and writing, will be needed as the project will involve several collaborations.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, accurate and flexible person who combines technical expertise with good knowledge in exosome biology and RNA transport to cells via EVs. In addition, the candidate needs to have good knowledge of English.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The candidate will be responsible for new experiments designed to understand how cells transport a group of specific RNAs and proteins to each other via exosomes and how to utilize this process for delivery of therapeutic mRNA molecules to target cells. The study will involve methods in cell and molecular biology, bioinformatics, and immunology for application in exosome biology (extracellular vesicle transport).

About the Department/Section/Group

At the Department of Rheumatology and Inflammation Research, at the Institute of Medicine, the main research areas are inflammation and inflammatory diseases irrespective of whether they are caused by allergies, infections or are autoimmune diseases. The aim is to investigate the underpinning mechanisms behind the inflammation. Several of our researchers also work as senior consultants at the clinics at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, which is a great advantage especially for translational research.

Exosome vesicles are secreted by almost every cell type studied so far and they are detectable in many biological fluids. These vesicles transport a group of RNA molecules (mainly mRNA and miRNA) and proteins between cells. The goal of our projects is to understand how cells transfer a group of RNA and proteins to each other via exosomes and how to utilize this process for therapeutic purposes.
