Qualification Details

To be qualified for the position requires that you are a biologist/molecular biologist with a PhD in immunology. It also requires previous knowledge in handling human blood and tissues, being highly knowledgeable in flow cytometry, the ability to perform routine analyses performed in an immunological lab, including confocal and light microscopy. A merit is knowledge in how to handle clinical data.

Proficiency in spoken and written English is a requirement. Great emphasis is placed on a structured working ethos, good collaboration skills as well as on personal suitability.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Duties

The work involves handling of tissue and blood from humans, for instance for isolation of cells. A large part of the job is analyses using flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, light microscopy and culturing of the isolated tissue/cells, and to some extent analyses using molecular biology and immunological methods. The work includes also summarizing of data and writing manuscripts for publication as well as supervision of PhDs and other students.

About the Department

At the Department of Rheumatology and Inflammation Research, at the Institute of Medicine, the main research areas are inflammation and inflammatory diseases irrespective of whether they are caused by allergies, infections or are autoimmune diseases. The aim is to investigate the underpinning mechanisms behind the inflammation. Several of our researchers also work as senior consultants at the clinics at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, which is a great advantage especially for translational research. The current group is led by Rheumatologist and Professor Inger Gjertsson and B-cell expert and Professor Lill Mårtensson and consist of postdocs, PhD students and undergraduate students.
