Qualification Details

Required qualifications for the position are:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Deep knowledge of computational methods based on statistical mechanics.
  • Substantial experience of biomolecular simulations and enhanced sampling.
  • Significant experience of developing programs or advanced analysis scripts.
  • A strong publication record.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Expertise in the particular research areas listed in the project description.
  • Experience in using NMR data to validate computational results.
  • Experience of supervision of graduate projects.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department.

Description of the workplace

Pär Söderhjelm’s research group at the Center for Molecular Protein Science (CMPS) develops and applies computational methods for understanding protein dynamics and addressing fundamental questions of how proteins function. The group has financial support from the Swedish research council (VR).

The researcher will be part of the project “Understanding dynamic communication pathways and transition states in proteins via computational studies of local volume fluctuations”, which is a collaboration between Söderhjelm’s and Akke’s research groups, aiming to understand fundamental aspects of conformational fluctuations in proteins by a combination of NMR and computational methods. In particular, the research focuses on

Development of methods for calculation of local volume fluctuations in proteins. Development of methods for investigating the coupling between local volume fluctuations and the kinetics and thermodynamics of conformational changes in proteins. Application of these methods to aromatic ring flipping and allosteric pathways.
