Qualification Details

To qualify as a researcher, the applicant must have completed a Swedish doctoral degree or must have a foreign degree corresponding to a Swedish doctoral degree.

Additional information about eligibility/assessment:

The candidate should hold a PhD degree in medicinal chemistry. He/she should have knowledge and experience from working with design and synthesis of biologically active compounds and conducting polymers/supramolecular systems, specifically synthesis of monomers for such systems. Furthermore, the applicant should have an extensive knowledge in organic synthesis and have practical experience in performing heterocyclic chemistry and carbon-carbon cross couplings. Since the project also includes electrochemical characterization of the synthesized compounds, previous experience of cyclic voltammetry is a requirement. . We are looking for a candidate that can push the project forward and who is able to work independently, both practically and theoretically. We therefore believe that you have a couple of years of previous postdoctoral experience.

About the Department

The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focus on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and in the environment. We address important societal issues such as antibiotic resistance, cancer, brain diseases, environmental problems and climate change. In this way, we contribute to achieving the UN's global goals for sustainable development in the areas of good health and well-being, sustainable energy for all, sustainable cities and communities, and combating climate change. The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education, and contributes strongly to the University of Gothenburg's top ranking in life science.

The department is responsible for postgraduate education in the subject area Natural Sciences with a focus on chemistry, biophysics, biology and educational science. In addition, the department hosts educational programs in molecular biology, genomics and systems biology, chemistry, organic chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry, as well as prescription education. The department collaborates with various societal actors such as schools, business and authorities. The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology has around 200 employees. We are located in central premises both on Campus Johanneberg and on Campus Medicinareberget in Gothenburg.

About the Research

The research in Medicinal chemistry at the University of Gothenburg comprises computer-based design, organic synthesis and characterization of compound to be used as eNeuropharmaceuticals. eNeuropharmacology, electroceuticals for the nervous system. In this project the ambition is to supplement biochemical signaling with electronic functionalities. Traditional medicines are based on the biochemical principles without regard to the electrical properties. We focus on organic electronics that are self-assembled directly inside or in the vicinity of the nervous system, to form electronic circuits that mimic the structure and organization of the nervous system, so that the nervous system can be seamlessly integrated.

Biological testing is done in collaboration with Chemical Biology at Lund University and industrial research groups.

About the Employer: University of Gothenburg
