Qualification Details

Applicants must have a PhD degree in a relevant field and are expected to have publications as first author in internationally renowned journals. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who is accustomed to planning and analyzing large datasets independently. Solid skills in large management of datasets, statistical analysis using different software such as R, SAS or SPSS and computer programming are required. Background on “–omics” data analysis and previous experience in Mendelian randomization analyses are a plus. The researcher is also required to be able to contextualize the results of the data analyses to a biological background.

Previous post-doctoral research experience in the field of rheumatology and experience in working with Swedish Health care register-based data are meritorious. Strong communication skills (written and oral) in English are necessary.

We are seeking an enthusiastic applicant with great commitment and interest in our research area, metabolism, inflammation and rheumatic diseases. We expect the applicant to work independently and the applicant will have the possibility to contribute with his/her own ideas to the work. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The successful applicant will be actively involved in the work of an international research team whose aim is to provide new understanding of the interplay between metabolism and inflammation in the pathogenesis of rheumatic diseases. The successful candidate will be responsible for data quality control, statistical analysis, and manuscript writing in projects involving large scale “–omics” data and Mendelian randomizations. The position will involve collaboration with clinicians, molecular biologists, and other research groups.

About the Department

At the Department of Rheumatology and Inflammation Research, at the Institute of Medicine, the main research areas are inflammation and inflammatory diseases irrespective of whether they are caused by allergies, infections or are autoimmune diseases. The aim is to investigate the underpinning mechanisms behind the inflammation. Several of our researchers also work as senior consultants at the clinics at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, which is a great advantage especially for translational research.

As an employee, you will be affiliated with the Department of Rheumatology and Inflammation Research at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. Within the department, Maglio's group researches the interplay between metabolism and the development of rheumatic diseases.
