Qualification Details

  • Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in psychology or a related behavioral science, or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required. In order to be considered for the position, the applicant must have completed and obtained a public defense by the application deadline.
  • Expertise in behavioral science, preferably environmental psychology or a related field (e.g., social psychology, behavioral economics).
  • Methodological competence and strong background in quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Good publication record
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

Preferred selection criteria

  • Solid background in environmental psychology is preferred (irrespective of formal educational background).
  • Experience with eye-tracking studies will be regarded an advantage
  • Experience with surveys, interviews and/or focus groups will be regarded as an advantage.

Responsibilities/Job Description

  • Study design and implementation as indicated above
  • Data analysis and interpretation (also for internal purposes of the project – the collected data will be sequentially used to inform subsequent stages of the project)
  • Writing of academic papers and preparation and presentation of other research outputs (e.g., conference or workshop presentations)
  • Project management and administration tasks
  • Support of other parts of the project teams in their activities

About the Department

Our research and teaching are based on five perspectives: biological, cognitive, social, personality and developmental psychology. We offer a clinical programme in psychology as well as study programmes in the psychology of learning and in work and organizational psychology. We have also three outpatient clinics in which we treat patients as part of the clinical programme. The Department of Psychology is one of seven departments in the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences.

About the Position

This position is partly funded by the European Commission through the EU’s Horizon 2020 program and partly through the Research Council of Norway and is available from 1st November 2021. ENTRANCES advocates “Clean Energy Transition” and will develop a set of recommendations for selected Coal mining and Carbon-intensive regions in Europe. The project intends to address challenges faced by these regions taking into account multi-dimensional perspectives involving different key players at territorial, regional, national, European, and global levels. The Norwegian case in the project is the transition process from oil and gas in the Stavanger region. PROTEIN2.0 is a project studying the impact of new developments in synthetic protein production (e.g., meat or milk from a bioreactor) on Norwegian society.

The research at the department of psychology focuses on consumer perceptions. DRIVERS is a project studying perceptions of autonomous vehicles (passenger cars, busses, trucks) and the impact automatization of driving has on driving behavior. The researcher will work in the part of the projects coordinated by NTNU’s Christian Klöckner. In ENTRANCES, the main tasks will be conducting empirical work (interviews, focus groups, surveys, document analysis) in the Stavanger region and contribution to project publications. In the PROTEIN2.0 project, the main work will be analysis of already collected data from a large survey and a choice experiment, as well as preparing publications. In DRIVERS, the main tasks are preparing and analyzing a population survey, as well as planning, conducting, and analyzing an eye-tracking study on attention while driving with drivers in a simulator and/or on a driving range.

The employment period is 16 months. As a researcher (code 1109) you are normally paid from gross NOK 534 400 – 626 100 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work. The position is subject to external funding. It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institute on a daily basis.
