Qualification Details

  • Degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in molecular biology or cell biology
  • Extensive experience in cell biology, electron microscopy and light microscopy
  • Experience with cell culture work and preparation of cell samples for microscopy, including transfection, preparation of stable cell lines and labeling experiments
  • Extensive experience in sample preparation for electron microscopy, conventional as well as cryo-preparation.
  • Experience with electron tomography, STEM-tomography, tomography reconstruction and modelling
  • Experience with correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM)
  • Experience with cryo-electron microscopy for structural analyses

Personal skills

The candidate should be highly motivated and dedicated, and should have strong collaboration skills.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The group has laboratories in Institute for Cancer Research, Oslo University Hospital.

The organization and research focus

The position is financed by a project funded by the European Research Council (ERC), entitled “Coincidence detection of proteins and lipids in regulation of cellular membrane dynamics (CODE)”. The aim of this project is to investigate coincidence detection of proteins and lipids as a mechanism of specific protein recruitment to cellular membranes.

Harald Stenmark is in charge of the CODE project. Stenmark is also director of CanCell, a Norwegian Centre of Excellence which aims at targeting the “Achilles’ heels” of cancer for cancer cell reprogramming. CODE is included in CanCell’s project portfolio.

About the Position

The researcher project will use advanced electron microscopy to study novel coincidence detectors on endosome membranes.

Cellular samples will be analyzed by various electron microscopic methods, including conventional transmission electron microscopy, electron tomography, cryo-electron microscopy and correlative light and electron microscopy

The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.
