Qualification Details

  • Technician diploma, such as Machine technician, Laboratory technician, Composite technician (DK: Industritekniker, Laboratorietekniker, Kompositoperatør)
  • Experience in working with composites for wind turbine blades, or other applications, is an advantage
  • Team player, flexible, proactive, independent/autonomous, organised

Responsibilities/Job Description

At DTU Wind Energy, you will join a team of dedicated researchers, engineers and research technicians – working together with the goal of exploring and understanding composites for wind turbine blades.

Over the last 40 years, wind turbine blades have grown in size and complexity. This development is closely linked with an improved understanding of the performance of composite materials. Experimental work in the composite labs at DTU Wind Energy is coupled with research and development on the special mechanical performance of composites covering themes of manufacturing, leading edge erosion, recycling, and fatigue properties.

The job

The position will be anchored in the Section of Composites Manufacturing and Testing with 22 employees. Your daily work will take place in the mechanical testing laboratory (Testlab), where you will contribute to the work of testing and developing new test methods for composite materials. The laboratory is DANAK accredited for performing certified mechanical testing. It is located in a brand new laboratory building at Risø campus, near Roskilde. In this working environment, creativity and opportunities for everyone to promote ideas is highly valued. The interaction between researchers, engineers and technicians is key in solving the complex issues the wind turbine industry will face in the future such as larger blades, faster production and improved materials performance.

Responsibilities

Your main responsibility will be to perform mechanical testing of composite materials under the relevant load cases for wind turbine blades (tension, compression and shear; static and fatigue properties). This responsibility covers repetition in tasks and test series, but covers also development of new testing techniques and concepts together with colleagues. The work will be carried out as part of both public funded research projects and commissioned work for the main wind turbine blade manufacturers and materials suppliers.
