Qualification Details

  • We are looking for a research technician that is enthusiastic and organised, with a bachelor degree in Biology and Medical Laboratory Techniques (HLO) or relevant master degree.
  • Considerable experience with serological techniques and viral work in a BSL3 laboratory is preferred.
  • Candidates should have a good command of the English language, both oral and written.

Responsibilities/Job Description

As a member of the Public Health Virology group you will also be part of the WHO collaborating center for Arbovirus and Haemorrhagic Fever Reference and Research. As such you will be involved in development, validation and execution of serological assays for a range of arboviruses, coronaviruses and other viruses and be part of the EMC Viroscience preparedness strategy for rare and emerging viruses. Moreover, you will be involved in multiple surveillance studies on on the human-animal interface. Laboratory work will involve a range of serological assays, virus culture and protein expression. You are expected to actively contribute to research questions of your projects and present your findings at various forums.

About the Department

The Department of Viroscience employs more than 110 employees of different disciplines and runs an extensive experimental research program on the epidemiology, pathogenesis, prevention and treatment of infections by human and animal viruses. All necessary equipment to carry out the research proposed in the projects is available within the setting of the department. The department harbors well-equipped clinical and experimental virology labs, in which all the virology, molecular biology, pathology and immunology techniques necessary for these projects are operational. There is a close collaboration between hospital diagnostics and research.

You will be appointed to the group of Prof. Marion Koopmans and Reina Sikkema.

About the Employer: Erasmus MC

Note or Other details

The position is a two-year fixed term contract, starting as soon as possible. The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 4.200,- (scale 9), depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week of 36 hours. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
