Qualification Details

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic research consultant with the following competencies and experience:

  • Relevant academic degree (e.g. Master and preferably PhD) within bioscience, engineering, specialized in molecular biology, biochemistry or other relevant topic.
  • Extensive experience with high-throughput sequencing and general molecular biology.
  • Documented hands-on experience with aDNA wet lab procedures, implementing lab workflows, robot programming and automization.
  • Experience in supervision and training of scientific personnel.
  • Experience in managing sample flow and coordinating activities of laboratory staff.
  • An independent, rational, and pragmatic mindset promoting collaboration and solutions.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized personality with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated optimization, troubleshooting and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English and (optionally) Danish.
  • Basic knowledge on bioinformatics workflows and NGS data analysis.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The responsibilities are maintenance and improvement of a semi-automated high-throughput sequencing workflow and LIMS in our labs including our clean laboratory facility, planning and coordination of sample flow, and reporting progress.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Responsibility for implementation of liquid handling systems for aDNA work.
  • Introduction of LIMS.
  • Responsibility for the daily operation of lab robot infrastructure.
  • Responsibility for coordinating samples in laboratory pipeline.
  • Participation in establishing of IT infrastructure.
  • Technical support in planning and troubleshooting.
  • Participation in the scientific activities of the group.
  • Follow the technological development.

About the GLOBE Institute

Section for GeoGenetics at the GLOBE Institute offers a busy and stimulating working environment, with a high degree of flexibility and a strong tradition for collaboration. Within its Lundbeck Foundation Centre for GeoGenetics (LFCGG) headed by Prof. Eske Willerslev, the GeoGenetics Sequencing Core (GSC) has been producing data for world-leading research group in ancient genomics for a decade. The LFCGG offers a busy and stimulating working environment, with a high degree of flexibility and a strong tradition for collaboration. As technical and scientific progress are moving the field of ancient genomics towards automated laboratory procedures, we are employing a qualified, highly motivated and committed full-time laboratory automation specialist at the LFCGG for. The work is conducted in close collaboration with the GeoGenetics Sequencing Core and other scientific staff members at LFCGG.

Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Lundbeck Foundation GeoGenetics Center, GLOBE Institute, Øster Voldgade 5-7, 1350 Copenhagen K. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include molecular biology laboratories and dedicated clean lab facilities for aDNA as well as a core facility for high-throughput DNA sequencing.

Terms of employment

The employment as ‘Research Consultant’ (AC-TAP) is a full time and fixed-term position until 30 September 2023. Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be DKK 41,872 (October 2021 level) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
