Qualification Details

Required:

  • MSc in Plant physiology, Plant biotechnology, Gene engineering technology or  Plant ecophysiology
  • Basic knowledge in soil science and silica nanoparticles  induced polysaccharide production
  • DNA/RNA isolation and NGS library preparation
  • Familiar with standard software (Excel Word,  DADA2, etc)

Advantages:

  • Experience in soil quality data analysis is an advantage
  • Experience of statistics (R, Unscrambler)
  • Understanding of agriculture and soils
  • Driving licence

Responsibilities/Job Description

Our team focuses on plant and microbial communities in sustainable production ecosystems of food and biological raw materials, being relevant to agriculture and forestry. We characterise the rhizosphere microbiome attributes influencing plant nutrition and desiccation tolerance, to expand the potential of modern plant-breeding lines using next generation sequencing, combined with high resolution microscopy and metabolomic approaches.

  1. Isolation  and analysis of microbial communities in soil, rhizosphere and in plant endosphere
  2. Reveal the microbial effect on plant growth, nutrition uptake, root architecture and metabolites

This position will contribute to the topic of climate change and developing microbial tools for its potential mitigation. The research assistant will work in close collaboration with our cross disciplinary team, which involves scientists ranging from community- and systems ecology to analytical chemistry and social science.
