Qualification Details

The professor is expected to be able to take part in all the activities of the Department, including examinations and administration and also manage research projects, provide pedagogic supervision, supervise assistant professors and sit on academic assessment panels.

The duties of the position are evenly distributed on tasks related to teaching and tasks related to research (including relevant administration and knowledge-sharing). Hence the assessment of applicants’ qualifications will assign equal weight to documented competences in the field of teaching, pedagogy and didactics as in the field of research, research collaboration and research organization. Applicants with documentation of excellent teaching skills including experience with development of teaching and with experiences and reflections on how most effectively to integrate research and teaching activities will be given priority.

Applicants are encouraged to read the University guidelines for teaching portfolio when appointing staff at the UCPH: https://employment.ku.dk/faculty/recruitment-process/job-application-portfolio/

In addition, emphasis will be placed on the following professional and personal qualifications: The successful candidate will have strong research qualifications in the area described above (in the job content). Applicants should therefore be able to document experience of applied linguistic research or sociolinguistic research in a university context. In addition, applicants must be familiar with the Danish or at least the Nordic education system, with a particular focus on higher education. The successful candidate will be interested in collaborating with other researchers and employees at the Centre and be willing to take part in joint language development and needs analysis projects across the Centre and the University as well as with external stakeholders from outside the university.

The Centre is seeking applicants who are interested in participating in and contributing to an interdisciplinary and multilingual workplace with a strong shared culture and who are interested in supporting the development and use of languages across the university. It is important that you have a flexible approach to tasks in a dynamic workplace where decisions often have to be made at short notice, so you will be expected to jump in and deal with a situation as it arises and to think creatively in order to come up with new and innovative solutions.

Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Furthermore, each candidate must be assessed according to the specific requirements stated in the job advertisement.

You can read more about the UCPH criteria here: https://employment.ku.dk/faculty/criteria-for-recognising-merit/

The Centre has both Danish and English as working languages, and it is therefore expected that applicants master academic English in both formal and informal situations. In addition, non-Danish speakers are expected to be able to understand spoken and written Danish after a short period (6 months) and that they will be able to acquire the necessary speaking and writing skills in Danish after a further two years. The Centre can provide intensive language support and training in both Danish and English as required.

Further details about the qualification requirements for professors can be found in the ministerial Order on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2019 here: Ministerial_Order_no._1443_of_11_December_2019_on_Job_Structure_for_Academic_Staff_at_Universities.pdf (ku.dk)
