Qualification Details

For the position, the candidate must hold a Master’s degree in psychology, or equivalent qualifications, and a PhD degree in psychology. The ideal candidate will also have clinical neuropsychological experience from outside the University and formal training in clinical neuropsychology.

The candidate has a strong background in cognitive and clinical neuropsychology. The candidate must have an excellent track record of successfully doing research and research-based teaching within the field of neuropsychology, as well as experience with supervision of junior researchers. It is essential that the candidate has strong collaborative skills and is willing to take on a leadership role within the field of neuropsychology at the Department of Psychology with regards to both research and teaching.

The Department of Psychology views teaching as an integral part of employment at the department. Therefore, the candidate should be able to demonstrate a rich experience in teaching and teaching planning and coordination, and should have undergone a formal education in teaching and learning in higher education.

In order to be assessed qualified for a professor position at the University of Copenhagen, the candidate must meet the University’s criteria of academic merit.

Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Furthermore, each candidate must be assessed according to the specific requirements stated in the job advertisement.

A successful candidate has strong interpersonal skills as well as an aptitude for working collaboratively with colleagues in planning and delivering teaching, in research projects and in the discharge of administrative duties.

Furthermore, the candidate must demonstrate a commitment to student learning, supporting student welfare and enhancing the student experience.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Duties and responsibilities of the post include contributing to the scholarship and intellectual life of the University by conducting world-class research and teaching. A professor also has administrative responsibilities and is expected to develop the field in synergy with other fields as well as to exercise academic leadership.

The successful candidate will be part of the Cognition and Neuropsychology cluster at the Department of Psychology. The cluster has a long history and strong background in clinical and cognitive neuropsychology, as well as theoretical and experimental cognitive science. We expect the applicant to conduct and develop their research in synergy with the ongoing work within the Cognition and Neuropsychology cluster, and to contribute to defining the goals and aspirations for this group.

With regards to research, we particularly welcome candidates with a strong background in cognitive and clinical neuropsychology. It is vital that the candidate has the capacity for and interest in developing the neuropsychological research at the Department. In addition to their own research, it is important that the candidate can drive and support ongoing and possible future research projects at the Department that relates to clinical neuropsychology more broadly, including collaborations with University hospitals.

With regards to teaching, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to and develop neuropsychological teaching in different parts of the psychology education, including Bachelor’s level courses, the Master’s level program in neuropsychology, and Master’s theses. Development of EVU-activities in clinical neuropsychology are also highly valued

The Department of Psychology has a strong commitment to basic and applied research, and is organised in research clusters and groups with associated post-graduate students and postdocs.

Education at the Department of Psychology is directed towards the psychological profession and is characterized by a high level with respect to theoretical, methodological, and applied contents. Teaching is also oriented towards other scientific disciplines and the department takes part in several interdisciplinary academic programmes.

Research at the Department of Psychology is of high international and ethical standards and is characterized by a fundamental curiosity to shed light on various phenomena from a psychological perspective.   • Employment with the Faculty of Social Sciences and progression within employment will be determined only by personal merit. We do this by applying academic criteria of the University of Copenhagen which are related to the duties and conditions of each particular post and the needs of the Department concerned.
  • The position is permanent, and therefore we strongly encourage the appointed professor to acquire the proficiency in Danish required to teach and interact with colleagues in that language in 3-6 years. The Department will provide and pay for the necessary language training

  • Terms of appointment and salary is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
  • The salary is DKK 53,162 per month + a 17.1 % contribution to the pension scheme. It is possible to negotiate salary supplements on an annual basis.
