Requirements for competence and professional skills

We are looking for a colleague who have a strong research profile within motivation and behavior related to sports and physical activity. We are particularly seeking a person with vast experience in intervention studies and use of sophisticated statistical analyses.

We are looking for a merited professor who has an active, international network and who has strong experience with applying for, and obtaining, external funding for research projects.

Documented strong qualifications within quantitative and/or qualitative methods are required.

The person hired is required to participate in teaching and supervision at graduate levels and must be able to document teaching and supervision experience in sports psychology. The new employee is expected to also be able to be responsible for our internship units, therefore contact and experience with the sports sector will be an advantage.

The person hired must have strong oral and written English skills. A doctorate and professorship including extensive published research in the field of sports and exercise psychology are required.

Selection criteria

When ranking competent applicants, emphasis will be placed on:

  • Quality, relevance and scope of scientific work on the topic of motivation and behavior in sport settings. Both quality and relevance count. In the assessment, special emphasis is placed on research of more recent date, involving intervention study designs.
  • Quality, relevance and scope of teaching and supervision at PhD-level.
  • Documented ability to obtain external funding for research projects.
  • Other documented qualifications that are relevant to the position, such as ability for popular science and public dissemination.
  • Personal suitability and good collaboration skills.

Relevant candidates may be invited for an interview with a subsequent trial lecture. The candidate who, overall, best meets the various criteria, will be offered the position.

Responsibilities/Job Description

There is a vacancy for a three year contract position as Professor II (20 %) of sports psychology at the Department of Sport and Social Sciences (IIS). IIS consists of a broadly focused academic professional group that conducts research, development work and teaching ball games, sports psychology, philosophy, history, sociology, the coaching role, sports management and sports, culture and development cooperation. The sports psychology group at NIH has for a long time been one of the leading research groups internationally in key fields within sports such as motivation, stress and mastery, and perception in football. We study both children and youth groups, as well as top athletes and coaches, and are in close contact with the field of practice. IIS has a modern ball game analysis lab, as well as a new sports psychology laboratory where we have projects in close collaboration with Olympiatoppen.

The Department of Sport and Social Sciences is a broadly focused academic group that conducts research, development, and teaching in several subjects: The Sociology of Sport, Sport Philosophy, History of Sport, Sport Psychology, Coaching, Sport Management and Sport for Development. We have a well-equipped laboratory for team/ball sport analysis and a modern sport psychology laboratory. Our staff puts much emphasis on the interplay between the teaching, research, and practical application.
