Responsibilities/Job Description

In accordance with the strategic development plan at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science the University seeks to appoint a professor of clinical decision support and optimized antibiotic use in pig herds.

For the professorship the main emphasis will be on the candidate's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of clinical decision support and optimized antibiotic use.

Additionally the candidate must have a documented strong clinical background from pig herd consultancy and specialist knowledge at the highest level within porcine health management. Preferentially the candidate should remain part time clinically pig health consultant during the part time employment as professor.

The overall responsibility of the professorship is to establish methods for improved clinical decision making in veterinary health management. The specific subject is to develop methods for evidence-based decisions on prevention or treatment of infectious disease. This requires incorporation of information from clinical observation, laboratory examination and production records. Prudent use of antibiotics in pig herds is required in order to reduce the public health risk associated with antibiotic resistance.

The professor is expected to carry out research in cooperation with other research groups at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science hereunder the activities related to research based consultancy for the public sector. In addition, the appointee should undertake pre-graduate teaching and supervisory duties in connection with e.g. PhD programs together with project management.

The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments
  • Attracting external funding
  • Research-based public-sector consultancy may be required
