About the Department

Department of Science and Environment is one of four departments at Roskilde University. The department conducts basic and applied research within medicinal biology, molecular biology, environmental sciences, chemistry, physics and mathematics. Bachelor programs are offered within these areas as are interdisciplinary Master programs, such as Physics and Scientific Modelling starting in September 2022.The department is organized into four sections: Environmental Dynamics, Medicinal & Molecular Biology, Mathematics & Physics and Chemistry. We strive to work interdisciplinary within the department, within the main areas at Roskilde University and in close and open-minded collaboration with private companies, public institutions, universities and NGOs.Read more at

The professor will be part of the Section of Mathematics & Physics (IMFUFA). This section comprises at the moment 17 professors, associate professors and assistant professors as well as a varying number of PhD-students, postdoc’s., technicians etc. The three main focal points of research are Structure and dynamics of soft matter and viscous liquids, History, philosophy and didactics of science, as well as Mathematical modelling and its scientific foundations. Together they encompass a multidimensional understanding of mathematics and physics, in which they function not just as classical scientific disciplines, but also as disciplines having external functions within other subjects, and as disciplines with their own scientific, cultural and societal characteristics. Altogether, the Section’s research explores important questions of in, with and about mathematics and physics.
