Qualification Details

You are expected to take a lead role in teaching at the BEng, BSc, MSc, and PhD levels. You are expected to learn Danish and be able to teach in Danish after 3 years. DTU can provide Danish language courses. You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

Responsibilities/Job Description

The Department of Physics (DTU Physics) invites applications for a position as Professor in Plasma Physics for Fusion Energy Applications. The position is a permanent faculty position, anchored in the Section for Plasma Physics and Fusion energy (PPFE).We offer you an international research environment, inspiring teaching possibilities of excellent graduate and undergraduate students, and a strong network with international facilities and programmes. We emphasize and encourage collaboration between theory and experiment and across disciplines—and build on using and developing state-of-the art methods and instrumentation.

Our local research infrastructure embraces a small versatile tokamak and other plasma setups. We have a broad collaboration on developing international fusion facilities like ITER and DEMO based on our expertise in advanced diagnostics and modelling of fast ion dynamics and of plasma turbulence and transport. We are furthermore the Danish entry point to the EUROfusion programme, and we coordinate national efforts at a number of Danish universities through the network DANfusion.

Responsibilities Your overall focus will be to make significant contributions to the research field of plasma physics and to mature fusion energy technology. You will take lead on attracting competitive funding for research and on contributing to international programmes and networks, including EUROfusion, Fusion for Energy (F4E), preparation for ITER operation, and design and construction of the DEMO device.   Your research field includes several of these topics:

  • Fundamental plasma physics
  • Diagnostics, heating, and control of magnetically confined plasma
  • Theory, modelling, and numerical simulations of magnetically confined plasmas
  • Fusion technology including materials

The position offers and demands research, teaching, and innovation combined with leadership within these areas. We expect you to further strengthen our internationally recognized research activities as well as expand academic and industrial collaboration. You will focus and expand the Danish activities towards the fastest possible realization of fusion as a versatile sustainable energy source.
