Qualification Details

Responsibilities/Job Description

The Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering at Aarhus University opens a permanent full Professor position in the field of emission research and development applied to agricultural waste chains. The position targets the imminent need for mitigation of emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants from current production practices, as well as future needs of emission and waste management technologies for sustainable transition of food production.Emission mitigation in sustainable food production relies on a combination of new technologies and strategies as well as improved measurement methodologies for process optimization and documentation.

May 1st, 2022, or as soon as possible.

Job description

The main responsibilities of the position are research and research-based teaching. The position also includes research based public sector consultancy.The successful applicant will acquire and manage externally funded projects aiming at 1) minimizing gas emissions from agricultural waste chains via technologies and strategies, and 2) development and deployment of state-of-the-art measurement methods for all types of relevant emission sources.

The applicant is expected to lead and develop a research group including Post Docs, PhD-students, and researchers performing advanced research projects, teaching and public service consultancy to the Danish government. The Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering has an established research group within this area and is currently at a recognized international level. The successful candidate should continue a strong continued development of the research group.

The ideal candidate is expected to take the role as section manager for the section of environmental engineering, and has therefore experience with management of people and budgets.

The applicant should also demonstrate the ability to perform research in an interdisciplinary field involving competences from chemistry, chemical engineering, biology and agricultural science. Projects are typically carried out in collaboration with external partners including industry, business organizations and other universities in Denmark and abroad.

About the Section

The successful candidate is employed in the Section of Environmental Engineering, which is a part of Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering. Researchers in the section develops environmental technologies as well as models of physical, chemical, and biological processes that are important for environmental quality. The research activities contribute to better management of animal manure and bio-waste through generation of new knowledge and quantification of mitigation effects. Emission of ammonia, greenhouse gases, VOC and sulfur compounds from manure management and biogas production for energy recovery from organic wastes have been the main applications to date. The work in this group depends on knowledge of animal science, chemistry, microbial transformations in natural and engineered ecosystems, data analysis, and modelling.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
