Qualification Details

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in building science or in a closely related field. The successful candidate is an academically trained engineering expert in building science with a focus on the design and operation of building enclosures and services to obtain high indoor environmental quality with minimum environmental life cycle impact. The candidate must have a competitive academic profile that includes development and application of thermal and daylight performance simulation in building design processes, data-driven building systems operation, and laboratory and field experiments of aspects related to indoor environmental quality. Furthermore, substantial experience from working in the building industry is preferred. In the assessment of candidates, strong emphasis and consideration will be given to:

  • Excellence in research demonstrated by numerous publications of original academic research in scientific journals and conference proceedings
  • A significant increasing or continuous high level of research impact in terms of number of publications, citations, and/or patents over time
  • Substantial experience and success in attracting external funding
  • Research network expressed as collaboration with relevant academic and industrial partners
  • Ability to conduct outstanding teaching and supervision at different academic levels (B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D.)
  • Experience in the development of research-based education and  teaching material
  • Experience in study program development and management
  • Experience from other academic duties such as boards, committees, and administration functions

Responsibilities/Job Description

The professor will be the scientific leader of the department’s research and teaching program in the field of buildings science. The professor will apply scientific insights and knowledge of building science disciplines when conducting high-quality research and teaching in the design and operation of healthy, comfortable, productive, and resource-efficient sustainable buildings.It is expected that the professor

  • Attract substantial external funding to support R&D activities in the department
  • Engage in interdisciplinary research and innovation projects in collaboration with relevant academic and industry partners
  • Disseminate research results in scientific journals and conferences as well as popular outlets
  • Fundraising and supervision of Ph.D. students
  • Teaching, supervision and examination of Bachelor and Master Degree students
  • Maintain an industrially relevant education at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Participate actively in administrative duties of the department
  • Participate in internal and external academic boards, committees, and alike.

The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at Aarhus University ( was established in 2021. About the Section

The advertised position belongs to the Section of Design and Construction. The section conduct education and research in the application of practical and theoretical engineering knowledge for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance buildings and infrastructure that ensure the safety, health, comfort, and productivity of people in a sustainable, resilient, and economically viable way. The education programs emphasize the scientific and engineering aspects of planning, designing, constructing, and operating buildings and infrastructure as well as the poetic and meta-physical aspects of constructing or transforming the built environment. The section seeks to train engineering bachelors and candidates in the ability to unite scientific principles from structural, mechanical, building physics, lighting, acoustical, and construction engineering while applying their discipline-specific expertise to conceptualize, design, construct, operate, and maintain built environments in interdisciplinary team environments. The section conducts various engineering research activities that seek to improve technologies and approaches for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of sustainable buildings.
