Qualification Details

We are looking for creative candidates who are as passionate about their own contribution as they are empowering and inspiring others. Our ideal candidates are specialized in and hold  a PhD degree in the field of condensed matter physics with expertise in fabrication or characterization and control. Furthermore you need excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Our goal is to develop nanoscale devices with topological properties in semiconductor-superconductor hybrid systems. As part of this effort, we have various projects aiming to fabricate, characterize and control spin-orbit interaction and induced superconductivity in these materials. For our experiments we develop new devices and advanced measurement techniques employing quantum dots and superconducting microwave circuits, and develop novel semiconductor-superconductor heterostructures.

As a Post-Doc in the team, you will be able to develop your own ideas.

We have several openings and depending on the expertise and interest of the candidates, work will involve fabrication of quantum devices in the cleanroom, RF and/or DC measurements in dilution fridges.

About the QuTech

QuTech is a mission-driven research institute run jointly by Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). Together, we work on a radically new technology with world-changing potential, developing scalable prototypes of a quantum computer and an intrinsically safe quantum internet.

We are creating the quantum future and we believe that quantum technology will be a game changer in many social and economic sectors – including health, agriculture, climate and safety. To achieve our ambitious goals, we bring together scientists, engineers and industry in an inspiring environment, with plenty of space for ambition, entrepreneurship and innovation.

Our research and engineering activities are conducted in three divisions: Quantum ComputingQuantum Internet and Qubit Research.

220 FTE and over 300 curious people work in our divisions and support teams and we actively search and welcome many more new colleagues who share our vision and enthusiasm.

About the Research

Qubit Research

Qubit Research focuses on the development of robust quantum devices: quantum bits that are intrinsically protected by underlying physical principles. We combine material science, theory, and novel device design, and our activities range from studying fundamental physical principles to fabricating new qubit prototypes.

Within this division a group, led by Prof. Leo Kouwenhoven, of roughly 40 scientists, engineers and students, uses various semiconductor-superconductor hybrid systems to study the physics of Majorana zero modes. The aim of this research is to explore and develop the next generation of quantum hardware, based on topologically protected quantum bits (qubits). Within the QuTech/Microsoft partnership, the Division Qubit Research operates in close collaboration with the Microsoft Quantum Lab in Delft.
