Qualification Details

We are looking for a highly motivated, dedicated and ambitious candidate with:

  • A PhD in ocean science, climate science or ecology
  • Experience with gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, trace gas analyses, molecular ecology
  • Project management and project development skills
  • Interest and will to travel and participate in field experiments nationally and internationally
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills and an interest in working in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Responsibilities/Job Description

A two-year postdoc position is available at the Department of Biology, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark. The position will be associated with Carolin Löscher and is funded by Independent Research Fund Denmark.

The aim of the postdoc project is to understand how nitrous oxide is biologically removed from marine surface waters by a combination of isotope labelling experiments, genetic and metagenomic profiling and single cell techniques. Nitrous oxide is one of the strongest natural greenhouse gases, and its production has been subject to numerous studies over the last decades. Its consumption, or its sinks, are, however, not clear and will therefore be studied in the context of this project. The position should start on 1 January 2022. Application deadline: 1 November 2021.

The postdoc should be interested in combining field work, marine biogeochemistry, ecology and bioinformatics.
