Qualification Details

To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree.  This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.

The applicant should have a PhD and strong scientific background in bioelectronics, tissue engineering, bioengineering. Experience in any of the following are of extra merit: cell culture, bioprinting, confocal microscopy, stimuli responsive materials. The applicant should be driven, creative, strongly self-motivated with excellent problem-solving abilities. The applicant should be able to work effectively both individually and together with other researchers in a multidisciplinary context. The applicant should have very good communication skills and very good knowledge of English both verbal and written.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Research area

In the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE) we explore electronic and optical properties of organic semiconductors, biomaterials from the forest and hybrid organic materials. We share a common interest in exploiting the combination of electronic and ionic charge for use in energy, internet-of-things, health care and biology applications. Our research topics include synthesis, material science, theory and modeling, device physics, nanotechnology, biotechnology and system design. Our activities span the range from basic research to commercialization, the latter carried out in close collaboration with RISE Acreo. LOE currently has ~100 researchers and research students divided into eleven units, each led by a principal investigator.Read more at: www.liu.se/loe

The Postdoc will work at the Electronic Plants group of LOE led by Assoc. Prof. Eleni Stavrinidou. The Electronic Plants group aims to interface electronics with plants. The research focuses on the development of plant based biohybrid systems and on the development of bioelectronic technologies for monitoring and controlling plant physiology. The project is funded by Dr. Stavrinidou’s ERC-Starting Grant 4D-Phytohybrid.Read more at: https://liu.se/en/research/electronic-plants

Work assignments

The Postdoc will develop biohybrid materials based on plant cells with living characteristics such as growth, responsiveness, and evolution. The postdoc will be responsible for culturing plant cells, charactering their growth and properties and functionalizing them with technological materials. The biohybrid materials will then be developed via additive manufacturing techniques including bioprinting and their electrical, mechanical and evolving properties will be characterized. The research has interdisciplinary character including material-device characterization and plant biology. The postdoc will work closely with collaborators specialized in plant biology.

As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.
