We are looking for an ambitious and motivated candidate with a particular interest in neuroscience wet lab experiments. For the appointment, a strong background in extensive practical laboratory experience is required. Proven skills and knowledge on immunohistochemistry staining and bioinformatics, are meritorious.  Other important qualifications are excellent oral, and more importantly, ability to write adequately in English. Further, proven ability to write coherent scientific text with at least one published or submitted manuscript where the applicant is the first author and wrote a major part of the text. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Cerebral palsy is the most common severe neurological disability in children and is strongly associated with brain injuries suffered during preterm birth. In Sweden, the prevalence of cerebral palsy is 43.7 cases per 1,000 preterm births at 28 to 31 weeks gestation. We still do not fully understand the etiology of the disease, and there are currently no efficient treatments for these conditions.  Advances in the care of premature infants have meant that more of these babies survive, but the downside to this is that the rates of preterm brain injury such as intracerebral hemorrhage have also increased. Our research goal is to develop treatment targets for the prevention and treatment of intracerebral hemorrhage and perinatal brain injury.

The research projects will involve the analysis of protein expression on brain tissue sections, the evaluation of preterm brain injury using transgenic mice. The tasks include hands-on experimental molecular biological work, and writing manuscripts and scientific reports.

The position requires to work independently as well as in collaboration with both national and international colleagues. There will be opportunities to teach and to supervise PhD students and other students.
