Qualification Details

To be considered for the position, applicants must have research qualifications at least corresponding to what can be achieved as part of a successfully completed PhD within a relevant field. We particularly welcome applicants with a background in HCI, media and communication research or social data science to add to our interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The position is part of the Platform Intelligence in News research and development project which runs 2020-2023 and is funded by the Innovation Fund Denmark. The aim of the project is to advance the knowledge of the role and potentials of algorithms in news production and circulation, and to do so in a transparent and privacy-perserving manner. The candidate’s research activities will contribute to the aims of the project through the planning and execution of empirical studies of the effects of recommender systems in news for news usage and experiences. The candidate will be expected to work with a team to conduct qualitative as well as quantitative research with machine learning methods to understand news use, and to contribute to assessing the implications of AI in news for the democratic function of the news media.

As postdoc in Platform Intelligence in News you will be expected to, independently and in collaboration with other researchers in the team, contribute to the empirical effect studies devised by the project framework. You will be expected to publish scientific articles within the context of the project and to participate in the organization of activities and research events within the project.

As postdoc at the Department of Communication you will be part of an internationally-oriented interdisciplinary environment focused on advancing theoretical, methodological and empirical research about digital society. You will be affiliated with the Center for Tracking and Society.

The Faculty may ask for a signed statement from the co-authors stipulating the extent and nature of each individual’s contribution.

Terms of appointment and salary will be in accordance with an agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The salary range starts at DKK 35,003.45, (EUR 4706.07) + a 17,1 % contribution to the pension scheme. It is possible to negotiate salary supplements on an annual basis.

The Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) have further agreed on a protocol that makes it possible for international researchers employed by the University to achieve a pension exemption, whereby the pension contribution will be paid out as salary.
