Qualification Details

An individual is qualified to apply for a position as a postdoctoral research fellow if they have a doctoral degree in a relevant research area to CBEES’ research profiles, in particular with a focus on field such as macroeconomics, trade, firms, labour markets and economic integration in the region, or a qualification from abroad that is equivalent to a doctoral degree in a relevant field. This requirement must be fulfilled at the time the decision on employment is made.

Primary consideration should be given to someone who was awarded the above qualifications within the three years prior to the deadline for application for employment as a postdoctoral research fellow. Someone who has a doctoral degree or a qualification from abroad that is equivalent to a doctoral degree from an earlier date may be considered if there are exceptional circumstances. Exceptional circumstances are leave due to ill health, parental leave, positions of trust in trades union organisations, service in the Swedish armed forces, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical practice or other practice/commissions relevant to the subject. The applicant must otherwise have the personal skills necessary to do their job well and to represent the university in a way that benefits its activities.

Södertörn University applies the below criteria for research expertise to the assessment of qualifications. If research expertise is demonstrated in a way other than that described below, the equivalent assessment must be made of this expertise.

Research expertise is demonstrated through a scholarly thesis and other scholarly publications in the relevant subject area and participation in research projects. The applicant must otherwise have the personal skills necessary to do their job well and to represent the university in a way that benefits its activities.

  • Research expertise, the quality of the research plan and relevance to CBEES’ research profiles with a specific focus on economic as mentioned above, as well as documented administrative skills and good cooperation skills.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The duties of a postdoctoral research fellow primarily include research, and may also include the development of research activities and participation in the academic community through assignments as reviewer, external expert and lecturer. Some teaching may be included in these duties, but at no more than 20 per cent of the total level of employment. Administrative duties may also be included in the position (such as when organising conferences or workshops).

We are particularly looking for applicants who specialise in Economics in the Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Europe, which could cover macroeconomics, trade, firms, labour markets and economic integration in the region.

The Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES) is tasked with stimulating and developing Södertörn University’s multidisciplinary research and doctoral (third-cycle) education with a focus on the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Europe. CBEES’ objective is to increase the national and international impact of Baltic and Eastern European research from Södertörn University, as well as achieving recognition of the university’s status as a knowledge hub. CBEES is a point of contact, not just within the university, but also for other research environment and the surrounding community. CBEES organises regular seminars, international conferences and summer schools, lectures, workshops, doctoral student meetings and courses, and publishes the Baltic Worlds journal. The research centre has professors, visiting researchers, postdocs, doctoral students and research leaders. The working language at CBEES is English.
