Responsibilities/Job Description

The overall objective of this program is to develop new tools and characterization techniques to enable the fabrication and study of two-dimensional (2D) materials with mixed Ionic electronic properties. The focus will be on 2D MXenes and transition metal dichalcogenides.

To fabricate these structures, you will develop methods enabling large-scale fabrication of 2D heterostructures using self-assembly and 3D printing. These structures will be characterized using nano-imaging and in-situ techniques that couple the electrochemical properties of 2D iontronics other properties like optical and structural. These studies will elucidate for the first time the underlying mechanism of 2D mixed Ionic electronic materials.

Another goal of the project is to fabricate 2D electrochemical transistors using standard microfabrication. This will enable the first study their scaling laws and behavior in nanodevices. It will further lead to the development of a new generation of computer memory component (2D electrochemical random-access memories) which is useful in neuromorphic computers.

The success of this project constitutes a breakthrough in materials science, and can enable materials new components for AI and new materials that rely on coupled electron ion behaviour.
