Qualification Details

  • You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree in material science or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD
  • You must have a professionally relevant background in material science, chemistry, or physics.
  • The candidate should have experience in high temperature experimental processes.
  • Good written and oral English is compulsory.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant 

Preferred selection criteria

It is an advantage to have a background in high temperature metal production. Knowledge of the silicon process is preferred.

Personal characteristics

  • The candidate must be able to work independently and progress in the research work by own achievements.
  • He/she must be creative in solving experimental challenges.
  • It is expected that the candidate has a strong research-ethical approach.
  • A fundamental part of the work will be the reporting of the results, and the candidate must be experienced in writing journal articles.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions.

Candidates with strong interest in metallurgical processes holding a PhD degree in materials science are invited to apply. The Postdoc will be a part of a research group of about 20 PhD’s and Postdocs as well as researchers from other companies like SINTEF.

Novel processes must be developed to increase the sustainability of material producing processes. In this project a novel method to produce silicon with H2 instead of carbon will be studied, thereby decreasing the CO2 emissions.

  • Experimentally investigate the Si-O-H system and develop experimental techniques for this system.
  • Disseminate the obtained results through scientific papers.
  • Participate in teaching and development of courses for graduate students.

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 553 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
