Qualification Details

  • You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD
  • You must have a professionally relevant background in statistical ecology or an associated area, e.g. in spatial ecology, macroecology, biological conservation, or applied mathematics
  • Applicants must demonstrate evidence of an interest in developing data-driven tools to aid in conservation/ecosystem management

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant 

Preferred selection criteria

  • Evidence of the skills and knowledge for the position, and the ability to learn new skills necessary for the role
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a larger team

Responsibilities/Job Description

  • develop models for occupancy
  • test and validate the models against movement data
  • coordinate with other members of the GreenPlan and ECOMap projects, as well as other researchers at NTNU and NINA, to fit these models into the workflows currently being developed for Norwegian biodiversity data
  • The modelling will involve the following tasks, which we expect the post doc to develop their competence in during the project:
    • Modelling of connectivity and/or landscape permeability
    • Bayesian modelling, using spatial random field models
    • Network analyses

We are Norway’s largest university environment in mathematical sciences. The Department has a particular responsibility for all basis education in mathematical sciences for engineering and natural science students at NTNU. We focus on long-term basic research and applied research at a high international level. Our aim is to meet the society’s needs for mathematical and statistical expertise in business and public administration as well as in the research and education sector.  The Department of Mathematical Sciences is one of seven departments in the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering .

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 553 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3 years. The department might have the opportunity to offer up to 1 year in addition with teaching duties.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
