Qualification Details


The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.

To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.

In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.

Assessment criteria

The first evaluation criterion is scientific skills and ability within the speech-and language pathology area. An ability to independently analysis data and write scientific texts is necessary. The second criterion is pedagogical skills and ability with focus on formal competence and experience of teaching undergraduate speech and language pathology students. Great emphasis will be placed in personal suitability.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Subject area description

Speech and Language Pathology is defined as the study of language, voice, and speech disorders, as well as swallowing disorders, and their treatment. Speech and language pathology as a subject area describes and explains various forms of communication difficulties resulting from language, voice, and speech disorders, how they should be evaluated and treated, as well as their effects on an individual' s personality, health and quality of life. Research included in the position are to focus on research on Speech and Language Pathology students learning and in a speech-language pathology area by choice, and thereby supplement and reinforce existing resources at the Speech and Language Pathology unit.


Work-realted duties involve implementation of a pedagogical research study of Speech-and Language Pathology students learning in collaboration with pedagogical competence. The position also involves conducting research in the applicant’s research area in speech and language pathology, as well as seeking research funding from outside sources. To some extent teaching at the Speech and Language Pathology program will be included.

About the Department

At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for a postdoctoral position at the Department of Health and Rehabilitation.

The Speech and Language Pathology unit of the Health and Rehabilitation department has the major task of being responsible for a four-year undergraduate Speech and language pathology programme. The unit also gives courses on the graduate level and engages in research in the subject of speech and language pathology. The unit consists of about fifteen lecturers and researchers and five doctoral students. All of these are engaged in instruction in the speech and language pathology programme and may serve as supervisors for projects on the graduate and doctoral level. This research focuses both on development-related and acquired communication difficulties. The unit is also commissioned by the National Board of Health and Welfare to conduct knowledge-based tests for speech pathologists from countries outside the EU who are applying for Swedish licences.
