Qualification Details

To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree.  This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.

We are now looking for someone who has a doctorate in virology. Documented experience of working with various human viruses such as HIV and coronavirus and in vitro infection of human primary cells, cell culture, spectral flow analysis and electron microscopy is a requirement for the position.

It is an advantage if you have previous experience with molecular biological methods such as unicellular RNA sequencing and proliferation of human dendritic cells.

The position requires very good knowledge of English in both speech and writing. As a person, you are independent and calm. You take responsibility for your work and take the initiative. You have a professional approach, can prioritize within your work and are characterized by a good communication and collaboration ability.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Work assignments

You will work in a research project that aims to define the pathways and factors responsible for the induction of immune impairment during HIV, RSV and coronavirus infection. In your future work, you will use in vitro experiments to study the RNA virus-induced deterioration and compare the resulting responses with the responses detected ex vivo in infected individuals.

As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

The workplace

You will work at the Division of Molecular Medicine and Virology (MMV), in Marie Larsson's research group. At the Division of Molecular Medicine and Virology, our research focus is on understanding how different factors and signaling pathways regulate cells and tissue development and to understand how different viruses infect and affect cellular functions and our immune system. The research includes studies at the molecular biological level as well as studies of biological effects on cells, tissues and organisms. The purpose of the research is to gain new knowledge and use it to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and cure diseases. Marie Larsson's research group focuses on research in the field of immunovirology, specifically HIV research and coronavirus with a focus on the immunomodulatory effect these viruses have on dendritic cells and T cells.
