Qualification Details

Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria

The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. Special attention will be given to experience in membrane cryo EM. Experience in production and isolation of membrane proteins, and membrane protein cryo EM is highly desirable. Additional experience in studies of substrate/ligand binding and functional analysis of transporter proteins will be highly valued. Good English and communication skills, proficiency in presenting research presentation and documentation of work is also of high importance. Important is experience in supervision of students and technical staff. Capacity to perform research individually is of importance, as is ability to work with a group towards a communal goal are essential. Emphasis will be given to personal requirements.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The position involves planning and performing research using biophysical methods, to determine the structure of SLC proteins, using cryo EM. Included in the responsibilities is supervision of PhD students and postdocs, and additional members within the project. Experience in production and isolation of membrane proteins, and membrane protein cryo EM is a requirement. Meriting is additional experience in studies of substrate/ligand binding and functional analysis of transporter proteins.

About the Department

The Department is mainly located with the other Departments of Chemistry and Life Sciences in the Arrhenius Laboratories for Natural Sciences, which are situated in the northern part of the University Campus at Frescati. Presently more than 300 people are working at the Department of which about 110 are PhD students engaged in internationally highly recognized research covering a broad range of subjects. The Department is also deeply involved in teaching, with courses at all undergraduate levels, including a wide range of Master courses. A close link between the undergraduate program and the research projects has since long been a tradition and a trademark of the Department. Science for Life Laboratory, where many of our researchers are based, is also closely linked to the department.
