Qualification Details
We are seeking an outstanding and enthusiastic Postdoc candidate who has expertise in the dynamic modelling of fluid systems, pumps or other hydro machinery. You have obtained a PhD degree recently in the relevant field.
Responsibilities/Job Description
The MENENS project develops adaptable energy system solutions for ships with methanol as a fuel with a broad consortium across the Dutch maritime sector, from fleet owner to ship designer and from shipyard to (specialist) supplier. In this project, Delft University of Technology performs applied and fundamental research into methanol engine technology, methanol reforming for fuel cells, and integration of methanol engines, fuel cells and batteries in DC systems and in ships.
The Postdoc position in this project focusses on the application of methanol as a fuel on board of a dredging vessel. For this purpose a combustion engine that runs on methanol will be developed. This engine will be tested in a laboratory setting using a programmable resistance bank which has to be programmed with realistic dynamic loads that are typical for dredging operations.
It is your task to develop a dynamic model which simulates the for instance the dynamic behavior of a pump – pipeline – drive system, for instance (but not limited to) the slurry flow in a suction pipe with draghead and pump of a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge.
These simulations lead to the load case that will be tested on the actual methanol driven engine.
