Qualification Details

Preference will be given to a theoretical background in computational fluid dynamics, thermo-mechanics, and optimization, and preferably with special focus on additive manufacturing.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Responsibilities/Job Description

The general objective of this postdoc is to develop a numerical model that simulates the non-Newtonian, nonisothermal flow- and curing-behavior of fiber reinforced thermosets during big area additive manufacturing. The numerical model will be used to optimize the print head design, process parameters, and printing strategies.

The postdoc project will be carried out in close collaboration with a sister project dealing with the experimental aspects of composite big area additive manufacturing. In addition, the postdoc will be a part of a larger project called ThermoForm that aims at robotic 3D-printing of lightweight composite formwork for concrete structures. The project partners include DTU Civil Engineering and a number of industrial companies.

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Develop a numerical model that simulates composite big area additive manufacturing
  • Characterize the rheological- and curing-behavior of thermosets
  • Generate a dataset to validate the numerical model
  • Couple the numerical model with optimization algorithms
  • Collaborate with the other project partners involved in ThermoForm
  • Supervise BSc and MSc students, and co-supervise PhD students
