  • You must have a professionally relevant background in computer simulations, thermodynamics, classical atomistic simulations, density functional theory, machine learning, modelling of materials- and/or soft matter.
  • You must have experience with programming and relevant software, e.g. LAMMPS/GROMACS or similar.
  • Experience in model development is an advantage
  • Fluent English language skills.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant

Preferred selection criteria

  • It is considered a strength if the candidate has experience with modelling of electrolytes and have a strong background in electrochemistry.

Personal characteristics

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and dedicated
  • Ability to solve complex technical tasks independently
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to fit in to the team, and collaborate with MSc- and PhD-students, as well as project partners in industry.

In the evaluation of which candidate is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education, experience, and personal suitability.

Responsibilities/Job Description

We have a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Modelling of Electrolytes for Aluminium based Batteries at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The project is funded by the Research Council of Norway, and is a collaborative project, where both SINTEF and industrial partners will contribute to the goals of the project.

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions.

The position will focus on atomistic computer simulations of electrolytes for aluminium anode batteries, using classical molecular simulations, DFT, and machine learning. The project will focus on fundamental understanding of solvation properties and optimizing the composition of electrolyte mixtures for use in aluminium based batteries.

Duties of the position

  • Use computer simulations to model solvation, thermodynamic behaviour, and transport properties of aluminium in candidate electrolytes
  • Develop computational models for screening of electrolyte mixtures
  • Integrate machine learning into the workflow, allowing for faster exclusion of electrolyte mixtures
  • Verify computational models against experimental results

The fellow is expected to actively participate in the battery community at NTNU and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. This involves participating in supervision of master and PhD-students, contributing to discussions, and the development of the project.

The fellow is expected to participate at conferences, and present work at relevant venues.

How to Apply?
