Responsibilities/Job Description

At the Delft Institute for Applied Mathematics (DIAM), part of Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Netherlands, a full-time postdoctoral position in the mathematical analysis of partial differential equations from fluid mechanics is offered. The postdoc will be mentored by Dr.M.V. Gnann (part of the Analysis Group at DIAM). The focus of the project is on Stokes and Navier-Stokes equations formulated as free boundary problems in which the free boundary has contact points. The research will be on developing a well-posedness and regularity theory for such problems that in particular characterizes singularities at contact points. For more information regarding Dr. Gnann's research, please visit: www.manuelgnann.com

Information on the Analysis Group can be found here https://fa.ewi.tudelft.nl/People/

The successful candidate will focus on carrying out mathematical research. If requested by the candidate, there will be the possibility to teach (in English) but the teaching load shall be kept light. Communication will be in Dutch. If desired, there is the possiblity to take Dutch language courses offered by the Language Center for Languages and Academic Skills of TU Delft, see: https://www.tudelft.nl/en/tpm/about-the-faculty/departments/staff-departments/centre-for-languages-and-academic-skills

About the Department

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three disciplines - electrical engineering, mathematics and computer science. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make future-proof. We are also working on a world in which humans and computers reinforce each other. We are mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. There is plenty of room here for ground-breaking research. We educate innovative engineers and have excellent labs and facilities that underline our strong international position. In total, more than 1,100 employees and 4,000 students work and study in this innovative environment.
