Qualification Details

Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent in chemical engineering, chemistry, petroleum engineering, or mathematics.

Previous experience with compositional reservoir simulation and expertise in thermodynamics and PVT modeling will be an advantage.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The major responsibility of the postdoc is to carry out simulation-based study on salt-precipitation during CO2 storage in a depleted oil reservoir. The postdoc is supposed to interact with other colleagues within the project working on experimental measurement related to salt precipitation. The postdoc needs to integrate the information from different sources and build adequate models for simulating both lab-scale and near-wellbore salt clogging processes. The objective is to establish a reliable simulation model based on the lab-scale core flooding and other experimental results, and apply the model to near-wellbore prediction to evaluate the risk of salt clogging, thus providing the basis for optimizing the CO2 injection strategy. It is expected that the candidate is familiar with compositional reservoir simulation tools, such as CMG GEM and Eclipse, or CO2 storage simulation tools, such as TOUGH2 and TOUGHREACT, and has sufficient knowledge about reservoir engineering.

With our international elite research and study programmes, we are helping to create a better world and to solve the global challenges formulated in the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Hans Christian Ørsted founded DTU in 1829 with a clear vision to develop and create value using science and engineering to benefit society. That vision lives on today. DTU has 13,400 students and 5,800 employees. We work in an international atmosphere and have an inclusive, evolving, and informal working environment. DTU has campuses in all parts of Denmark and in Greenland, and we collaborate with the best universities around the world.

About the Employer:

Note

Centre for Energy Resources Engineering (CERE) at DTU Chemistry seeks a postdoc in connection with the ongoing research projects related to geological CO2 storage (in particular, the Greensand phase II project funded by EUDP Project Greensand ! CO2 Lagring). CERE is a cross-departmental centre (www.cere.dtu.dk), and the CERE group at DTU Chemistry is focused on high-pressure phase behaviour and other critical issues related to oil and gas production, petroleum processing, and carbon dioxide sequestration. The research activities at CERE, DTU Chemistry mainly involve experimental measurement and modelling of phase equilibrium and thermophysical properties at high pressure and development of efficient phase equilibrium calculation algorithms for compositional simulations.

Offer

DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.
