Qualification Details

The candidate must have a doctoral degree or equivalent in cell or molecular biology, biochemistry or a related discipline. We are looking for highly motivated applicants who have practical experience of cell culture experiments, work with DNA, such as ChIP and RT-PCR, and biophysical experiments, such as NMR, and CD spectroscopy. The applicant must also have experience and be knowledgeable in the G-quadruplex / i-motif field. The candidate must have presented strong relevant research results in the field. These must be documented by first authorship in scientific publications. Good oral and written communication skills in English are required.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Four-stranded DNA structures are formed in guanine- and cytosine-rich DNA, and are called G-quadruplex DNA or i-motifs, respectively. We aim to understand how these DNA structures are formed and whether these structures can be formed simultaneously in the genome.

These structures are associated with cancer onset and cancer therapy. The purpose of this project is to investigate how these structures are formed in the genome and whether G-quadruplex structures and i-motifs can be formed simultaneously within the same DNA region. We study these structures using a combination of cell culture experiments, biophysical and biochemical experiments.
