Qualification Details

In order to be eligible for employment you must have a MSc in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or equivalent educational background in relevant subjects.

Knowledge of physics and mining as well as experience of field work is desirable, since much of the work will be conducted on site and in close collaboration with other researchers and industry partners. The ability to work collaboratively in larger groups is an important asset. You must have good skills in both written and spoken English.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The research subject Mining and Rock Engineering comprises mining technology, rock engineering and rock mechanics, including rock mass properties, design of rock excavations and tunneling as well as planning- and production processes related to both mining and civil engineering.


As a PhD student, you are expected to perform both theoretical and field work within your research studies as well as communicate your results at national and international conferences and in scientific journals. You are also expected to go through the compulsory doctoral courses. The majority of your working time will be devoted to your own research studies. In addition, you may have the opportunity to try out the teaching role.

About the Project

The PhD project Underground Loop is funded by the mining industry for the years 2021-2024. In this project, we intend to develop proof of concept underground loop system for deep Swedish underground mines. We expect a close cooperation between the senior researchers and the PhD student as well as collaboration between universities and mining industry
