Responsibilities/Job Description

The position as PhD research fellow is related to work package 2 in the above-mentioned project. The aim of this work package is to gain a deeper understanding of the connections between health, in a broad sense, and participation in training and employment among refugees from Syria who are living in Norway, by means of a special investigation into what refugees themselves perceive as promoting meaningful activity, education and work. The work package makes use of repeated qualitative research interviews.

While the main project is led by the University of Bergen, work package 2 is led by the Norwegian Centre for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies (NKVTS) in collaboration with the University of Bergen. The PhD is therefore linked to the University of Bergen, but the research fellowship has Oslo as its place of work. The main academic supervisor will be Arnfinn J. Andersen. The co-supervisor from the University of Bergen is Esperanza Diaz.

In collaboration with the interdisciplinary project group, the main duties, among others, will be to:

  • Obtain the necessary approvals for the implementation of the study
  • Recruit and interview participants
  • Transcribe, code and analyse qualitative data
  • Write academic articles and reports
  • Communicate results to the participant group, decision-makers and other stakeholders
